C l u b   c r e w 

This level of paddling is for people who want a higher level of athleticism through a year round program. Paddling at this level is higher in intensity and duration. This team's to mandate is to medal in their category locally and provincially. At level 3 paddlers are strongly encouraged to participate in the sport specific training year round program provided by a Dragon Boat Canada competitive certified coach.

Water time - 1, 60’ practice 3 times weekly (Tentatively Monday, Wednesday, Sunday @ 6:45, May 16-September 12, Wabamun Lake)

Festival attendance - 3 per season (not included in water season fees)
Fitness program - 5 days/week, approx. 30’ in length to be used in a gym or with basic home equipment
(optional but required if interested in pool paddling and spring camp. Base fitness testing is done in April to ensure paddlers are able to manage the workload of water season, prevent injury and ensure paddler safety. Paddlers may be moved to level 2 paddling till fitness improves.)

Pool paddling - January to April, once weekly for 14 weeks (Optional)
Gym training – 54, 60’ sessions/year, October to April. Level 3 members are strongly encouraged to

participate in fall, winter and spring programs  (Unavailable at this time due to Covid guidelines)

Individual paddlers who want to have fun on the water and enjoy a community level sport. Festivals are optional based on team decision. Festival participation is a reasonable and additional cost. Mixed, Women's and Men's teams. Paddlers have the option to join the fitness program developed by a DBC certified competitive coach.

Water time - 1 practice once weekly (Tentatively Wednesdays @ 5:45, June 27-August 31, Spring Lake)

Festival attendance - 1 per season (not included in water season fees)

This crew is formed by individuals who try out. The team is compiled from a selected group of athletes to form a crew with the intent of racing in nationals to win a berth to the Club Crew World Competition. Program participants are given a sport specific training program by a Dragon Boat Canada competitive certified coach with a fitness progression and water season progression plan. Fitness, strength and endurance is therefore measured and monitored regularly by testing. Mixed, Women's and Men's teams.

Water time – 1, 75’ practice three times weekly. (Tentatively Monday, Wednesday, Sunday @ 6:45, May-September, Wabamun Lake)

Festival attendance - 3-4 per season and nationals when applicable (not included in water season fees)
Fitness program - 5 days/week, approx. 45’ in length. Starts October 15-Septmeber 15th. Fitness testing in April.

Pool paddling - January to April, once weekly for 14 weeks.
Gym training – 54, 60’ sessions/year from November to April held at a gym and conducted by a DBC competitive coach. Club Crew level members are required to participate in fall, winter and spring programs.

Paddlers participate in a level 3 team and try out when recruitment opens October 2020.

Cheryl has completed Dragon Boat Canada's level 2 dragon boat coaching and is certified to coach teams from recreation to those who aspire to the Club Crew World Competition Level. Cheryl has also completed her National Coaching Certification Program in level 1 Canoe and Kayak.


Cheryl has also completed courses in competitive mindset training and introductory courses in sport psychology. Her business background is in team development and building positive cultures.

As a paddler Cheryl has excelled in the sport of Dragon Boat Racing, winning several medals in Provincial, National and International competition.  She knows the dedication, commitment and perseverance it takes to be a peak performer in the sport of Dragon Boat Racing.  Cheryl has competed on the National team in the 2015 IDBF World Dragon Boat Championships where her Sr B Canadian Team won GOLD in each distance they raced. Cheryl will be competing on the women's Sr A and B National teams in the Canadian Outrigger World Championships in Hilo, Hawaii August 2020.

Specifically for paddlers who are interested in paddling to compete in local festivals and enjoy being active while increasing fitness through the sport of dragon boat racing. Paddlers have the option to join the fitness program developed by a DBC certified competitive coach. Mixed, Women's and Men's teams.

Water time - 1, 60’ practice twice weekly (Tentatively Tuesdays and Thursdays @ 6:30, June 27-August 31, Wabamun Lake)

Festival attendance - 1-2 per season (not included in water season fees)
Fitness program - Online training geared to use minimal home equipment

Gym training - Level 2 club members are welcome to participate in group gym team training sessions
